Habitat for Humanity NYC
Habitat for Humanity NYC
Habitat for Humanity NYC is one of more than 1,500 United States affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from the world.

This affiliate was created in 1984 when New York City was selected as the site of the first Jimmy Carter Work Project and currently builds in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens.

Habitat for Humanity rehabilitates simple, decent homes, sells them to partner families at no profit, and helps families to finance the homes with affordable, no-interest loans. Instead of a financial down payment, homeowners invest hundreds of sweat equity hours of volunteer labor on their own homes and homes of other family partners. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more homes.

Habitat welcomes individuals of all faiths to participate in its mission. There is no discrimination based on religion, race, gender or age for any activities associated with this program.

Visit their website, read about their mission, make a donation, or volunteer.
Families of Military Casualties
Families of Military Casualties
If you would like to contribute to Military Relief Societies that help families whose loved ones were injured or killed in battle, please visit:
The Wounded Warrior Project
The Wounded Warrior Project
The Wounded Warrior Project seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hot spots around the world. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service.
Operation Shoebox
Operation Shoebox
Operation Shoebox was founded in 2003 in an effort to send support, snacks and much needed personal care items to our troops deployed outside of the USA. We encourage citizens to support their fighting men and women deployed overseas in these dangerous times. The most frequent response we get from the "boots on the ground" is that receiving mail from the home front is a huge morale boost!
The Haitian Health Foundation
The Haitian Health Foundation
The Haitian Health Foundation is a registered charity that aims to improve the lives of the poor and infirm in the greater Jeremie area of Haiti with a focus on women and children.

They offer a variety of services including safe motherhood services, self-help programs, outpatient clinics, public outreach programs and also responding to emergencies and crises with humanitarian relief.

If you would like to learn more about the work they do or to make a donation, please visit their website.
Father Joe's Villages

Father Joe's Villages is one of America's most highly respected charities working to break the cycle of homelessness.

Based in San Diego, it started out as a simple soup kitchen and has now evolved to a national model for getting people back on their feet again.

Bill gives actively to this charity because it really helps homeless people help themselves. Visit their website.

The Columban Fathers
The Missionary Society of St. Columban, approved by the Holy See in 1918, is an international missionary organization sent by the Catholic Church. Today, the Society's mission is to:
  • Cross boundaries of country, language and culture to establish the Church among peoples who have not heard the Gospel.
  • Help churches mature until they are able to evangelize their own people.
  • Promote dialogue between Christians and those of other religions.
Responsibility
Responsibility
For 25 years our schools have given more then 6,000 children who live in and near Tijuana's vast municipal garbage dumps a horizon beyond the smell, flies, and refuse.

Our main emphasis is our preschool/kindergarten. For the teenagers and young adults, we have a computer lab where we teach both computer literacy and English conversation.

Our Summer Camp program provides a wide variety of classes and changes every year according to the volunteer teachers who come to share their talents with children ranging in age from three to sixteen. Field trips sometimes provide the only exposure to life beyond the garbage dumps.
